Part 0: Why AGI

  • Reading time:3 mins read

ChatGPT and all the other bots make my days easier and I would be a hypocrite to say anything bad about it from a productivity perspective.

But as an engineer, it’s extremely dangerous for the mind. At Least for me.

Because it takes away the one thing that an engineering mind craves more than anything, ‘the blessing of thinking through complex problems’.

I analyzed my trajectory last year and the ‘work’ is becoming more and more dull. Final nail was a recent project where I got to work with a few billions worth of medical data, and it was like ‘meh’.

No challenge.

No joy.

No fulfillment.

Most of the projects I work have become so routine and for a lack of a better word ‘beneath’ the level of stimulation my engineering mind craves

I don’t have additional time to start an interesting personal project. So i was thinking of what I should do to keep my brain occupied and to stop myself from being bored to death with ‘meh’ work.

One of my close friends suggested to me ‘why don’t you write?’

I gave it some thoughts and I decided to write a series of articles ( 74 to be precise ) explaining Advanced Ai concepts specifically focused on Artificial General Intelligence.

It’s one thing to know the subject but to explain it in a simple way is a whole new ball game. I thought this would be a good challenge to put my knowledge to simple terms. Let’s see.

Plan is to publish once every 3 days, but I am not going to lock myself to that because then it will become a ‘chore’ rather than a fulfilling joyful experience for me.

Hope my attempt to keep my brain engaged will somehow bring some value to you in the process.
